AD Reference 5 : Chylia

Chylia When the nimblirusi were confined to their homeworld of Nimblir, every hive had a queen, and every hive was its own independent state, serving no other. Wars between hives ended with eradication of the queens brood and integration of all others into the victorious hive, so some hives were larger than others, but no hive had more than one actual population center. When they achieved space travel and colonized the moons of Nimblir, the governing system survived. However, when they made first contact with another race, a new system had to come into being one that put nimblirusi before outsiders. And so, the over-hive was created, the queen of all nimblirusi chosen after a violent fight to the death from a long list of prospective queens. These contests are normal to nimblirusi they see nature as being much more hostile and uncaring than their civilization, even compared to other civilizations, who to them merely hide their violence and primal natures behind etiquette and sentiment. The emerging nation was called Chylia, and the first Queen was Izraekamnala, the most powerful, and indeed, the only, mature queen left on the planet after the royal battle royale ended. From that point on, each hive could have a queen, but all bowed before the Queen of Chylia. Relative latecomers to galactic events, the nimblirusi didnt even make contact with the majority of the other races of Takisi Garden until the Dominion of the Legion was in its prime and due to this, they initially thought that the mammals enacted in the same vicious and consuming wars that they themselves did on a regular basis but they waited the Legion Wars out, not having the strength of arms to fight against such an overwhelming foe such as the Dominion. However, when the Legion was defeated and the Golden Age of Peace began afterwards, the nimblirusi began to see the other nations in a different light, and after spending nearly a century developing their lagging technology, building up their military, and colonizing the nearby planets and star systems, Chylia got their first taste of interstellar war in the First Imperial War. However, Sykrianitara, hoping that her temporary allies, the iceril, would be easy pickings after taking the brunt of the DXE attacks, let far too many NurTani and League forces be decimated by the Ephex and the Confederacy, and the war was lost. However, both Chylia and NurTan pulled out of the war before the xaersi reached Drathonis, leaving those who started the war to their fates. Despite taking a mere fraction of the losses that her allies took, Sykrianitara realized that even if skittish, the other races of Takisi Garden were still a force to be reckoned with. Chylia spent the next century plotting smaller takeovers nearer to home, and attempted to expand into the void antispinward of their small nation, but with little success the stars had insignificantly tiny planets that were too few and too inhospitable to make them worth the trip. However, after Sykrianitara died and her daughter-queen Arianoku replaced her, Chylia became much more involved with Takisi Garden politics and events. Only a few short years after her ascention to the throne, Arianoku assassinated the Dromi, Cael, immediately forming an alliance with his unknowing heir, Duranis, and launched a combined attack on NurTan in the War of Shards. With the Ephexs help, Chylia defeated the NurTani forces with ease, and conquered their nation. However, Chylias glory would be wasted by the very things that made Arianoku advance the cause she wouldnt give up the throne during her egg-laying cycle, and her paranoia and unfounded suspicions got the better of her and she turned her back on her only ally, the DXE, in the Third Imperial War, instead allying with the Terran League. However, the war went badly for Chylia, and they lost NurTan to iceril rebels and gained no new territory. When they found themselves cut off from any allies, they quickly dropped out of the war, and the Ephex and the reformed nation of NurTan were nice enough not to continue the war to the enemy doorstep, as Arianoku no doubt would have done in their stead. Arianoku lapsed into a years-long depression, only ended when she was killed, probably by her successor, a male, former pirate lord named Steian. It is generally believed he killed Arianoku himself, in order to gain the throne, while there were no queens fit to take it, and since then, no one has challenged his rulership and lived save for a few outspoken rebels who have been driven to the Lost Queens Coffin far outside Chylian space. Steian continues to hold his nation together through the rampant hive wars that ravage their worlds, and keep the black market tightly wrapped around his finger. And with the borders of Chylia heavily guarded against intrusion by mammals, very few know how powerful Steian has been growing, and what his plans are going to be when he finally lets loose the reins of the merciless Chylian military. b. The Lost Queens Coffin The Lost Queens Coffin is the base of operations for the Lost Mothers Resistance, the largest anti-Steian group in Chylia. Led by elder nimblirusi who served under Arianoku before Steian assassinated her, the group has attracted quite a few nimblirusi to its cause those driven to ruin by Steians rise to power, runaways from the Entourages Black Market slave dealings, even the rare nimblirusi traditionalist who wishes to see their nation and people ruled once more by a Queen-Mother as it was for millennia before Steian came. While not a substantial threat to Chylia, these rebels are always looking for ways to do the Pirate Lord harm, and will ally with just about anyone, not so surprising considering nimblirusi are the last people anyone else wants to ally with. They have even sent out messengers with proposals to the NurTani Imperium, promising a new age of peace and cooperation should they assist in bringing a new Queen to power. Thus far their proposals have gone unanswered. Planetary bodies devoid of a star are rare, and difficult to find when they are discovered. Not only that, but it is rare that they are suitable for terraforming, being frozen, desolate hunks of rock floating alone in the depths of space. However, it is qualities such as these that make them so attractive to people trying to hide, and nimblirusi, given their apathetic attitude towards anything resembling a comfortable life, are more inclined to settle these barren worlds than others. The planet originally called the Lost Mothers Nest is one of these, far rimward of the Chylian border about equidistant from Chylia, NurTan, and the DXE and on the fringes of explored space. The surface is completely uninhabitable, and looks uninhabited from both visual and sensor scans of the planet. However, shielded and hidden in caves deep beneath the surface is a large complex terraformed by the LMR nimblirusi into a decent facsimile of a Nimbliric environment. Contained in this complex is the LMRs strategic command, living space for members, a greenhouse in which food is grown and kept, several armories and docking ports, and a tomb in which the desecrated body of Queen Chaliaskendra, the Lost Mother, is kept. There are minimum accommodations for visitors and new members, as they arrive infrequently enough for the rooms of recently deceased freedom fighters to suffice as quarters. Only LMR members are allowed to come here, and only LMR members have seen the place, with the exception of the hanai frigate that laid waste to the original colonizing team and killed Chaliaskendra. However, since they are not from Takisi Garden and the LMR has yet to discern what they are, other than completely different from anything seen so far in the Garden, the fact remains. Anyone who somehow stumbles upon this remote base will most likely be torn limb from limb by the fifty or so homicidally devoted LMR rebels on the base at any given time, just to keep their location out of Steians hands. It is a self-sustaining colony, everything the LMR needs being grown or culled in the caves below the surface of the planet. All they need is a Queen to build them an army and take permanent control of the place, and it is this goal that pervades the most intricate and far-reaching of Jekirthanarisks plans.
