The Circle of Flora

CIRCLE OF FLORA Digital Collage 10 2002 On a train ride to my job, I sketched an idea for a flower pattern. It started with a single red rose. And had several green vines circled around it in a symmetrical pattern of four. As it sprouted sharp deadly thorns with vivid green leaves in a quad formation top to bottom and side to side. A simple pattern to create, but the challenge was finding the photos to create this collage. I found a black and white photo of a lovely rose. It was big enough for me to use and shrink down. I colored it red with pink highlights and placed it in the center. I personally plucked several choice leaves from trees and plants in my travels. They were scanned in, copied and placed strategically on all four corners. A sweet violet pansy was used to bind the top flora together. And a bright yellow touch was added from a single sunflower petal. It was copied and pasted all around this design as a hint of sky blue spread out behind them. I gave this piece to my girlfriend, Tracy as a trophy of our ever-blossoming love. It is a flower arrangement that will never die!
