This was taken at the same time as the look out photo. There was no guard rail to the right of the look out post and it just dropped off the mountain. It was near a place called "The Devil's Kitchen" where civil war soldiers hid in a crevice in the rock walls. Here you can see the cliff edge, and the trees growing in the mountain side...
