a break from norse mythology this time, and heading over to indian instead.
influenced by all the classical hindustani music i listen to while i sit in an opium haze while mehndi artist's paint me with henna and feed my dahl...
ok, that's all a lie. except for the music bit.
anyways, this is ganga, holiest of the three great river goddesses- goddess of the great river ganges (yes, the holiest of rivers- also the river they crap into and send their dead down. DON'T DRINK FROM IT!)
anyways, Ganga emerged from one of Vishnu's toes ( i don't know which one, or exactly how) and lived in the sky, until the earth was filled with the ashes of the dead and the gods agreed to emerge from the sky to go to earth.
the ganges was so great, though, in threatened to engulf all of earth, so it lived in Shiva's hair for several years, before splitting into seven rivers.
anyways, yes, this is Ganga. her life is a confusing mess. she's a modern woman.
painted on an 8 x 6 inch canvas sheet
