The shipwreck on Navagio Beach

Navagio Beach on the Greek island of Zakynthos is probably one of the most photographed beaches in Greece. It is located in a bay sheltered by imposing limestone cliffs and is only accessible by boat. It is a stopping point for excursion boats that take dozens of sunbathers to the snow-white beach. But the beach has another attraction, namely the wreck of the smuggler ship Panagiotis that ran aground on October 2, 1980. The ancient ship was probably used to smuggle cigarettes from Turkey to Italy and may have been pursued by the Greek Coast Guard. The ship was launched in 1937, at a yard in Glasgow, under the name Saint Brendan. After being sold several times, it finally got Piraeus as its home port and bore its current name.
