"The Seagull she will be a-smiling" so the poet wrote about the Laughing Gull but there is no species of Seagull only about fifty six varieties of gulls according to Birds of North America Handbook but the name is used so often generically that it is accepted today by most lay people (non-ornithologists) as a gull.
