A small study of the farmer Arnalff Oldusson Fenstad. Fenstad came from the humble municipality of Sylteboth in Norway. After a few years of struggling as a small farmer, he turned to forging banknotes, and soon became the subject of an investigation leading to his arrest in 1631. He managed to break out of "Christiania Tugthus" and there are known printed wanted posters carrying his portrait. This small oil study probably derives from the preparation for that specific work by Felix Fiigenschou. Sold.
