This scene was inspired to me by J.R.R. Tolkien's work in the Silmarillion. (I paraphrased some of it) Melian was a Maia, of the race of Valar. She dwelt in the gardens of Lorien and she was the wisest and most skilled in songs of enchantment. It is told the Valar would cease their work and the land will be silent just to hear her singing. Nightingales always went with her and she would teach them their song and she loved the deep shadow of the great trees. Thingol would venture through the forest to seek out his friend, Finwe when it was chance that allowed this meeting between Thingol and Melian. He suddenly heard the song of the nightingales and an enchantment fell on him and he stood still. He later heard Melian's voice. There Melian stood; out of the darkness he looked at her and the light of Aman was in her face. She spoke no word but being filled with love, Thingol came to her and took her hand, and straightway a spell was laid on him....... I always love a gentle love story. Holding of hands, I find, is the most romantic part of the journey. The first skin contact. Quite an intimate moment if you ask me. I didn't just want both her hands clasped in his like they were well known lovers but I wanted to show that small moment before any skin contact. The process of courting.... Him, reaching for her hand and the whole world seems to stop. Now that... that's a love story
