Artist comment: "The creativity of kite festival displays is always amazing to me. In this pastel painting on Canson Mi-Teintes textured paper, I sketched the scene in what I call a triangle composition. The owners of the display may have just popped over to their favorite food booth leaving empty beach chairs to look after the fish on a stick and bobbing wands. I painted the sky and sand and sea, then I painted the colorful koi. Next I did the chairs, then the wands. I completed the shadows, the scattered small stones, and the distant boat."
