Wild turkeys- Adult male and yearling male Display

This picture gives a very good view of how the males hold/spread their feathers when they are Displaying (showing off for the females). When the males are displaying they will drum their wings on the ground so hard that it makes a loud sound just like if they were banging on a drum. If you look at the tip of the wings on the adult male you can see that the tips of the feathers have been worn down by the drumming (guess I figured out why turkey legs are called drum sticks... lol. while drumming their wings they are also known to use their feet to do so as well). the two in the front are male wild turkeys- the one on the left being a young male between 1-2 years old, notice the feathers are not as long and full as the one on the right which is full adult male. Also the coloration is not as bright in the younger male. the two in the back are females. The feathers back, upper wings and chest are all solid dark black. They appear here to look very light because of an iridescent sheen that looks almost sea/spring green at one angle and a pink-red at another angle. When looked at from the right angle they show off their very black coloration. If you look at the very front part of the lower chest on the adult male you can see the pink-red coloration showing. On the young one it is showing bands of each color. — at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge.

I agree on their coloration, in the right light they are wonderful as their feather shimmer in the sunlight..
