Artist comment: "For years I have been an avid clam digger. Since art is my career, it is a natural consequence that I should paint the past time of clam digging. I chose pastel on Canson Mi-Teintes textured paper for this scene. I sketched the positioning of the figures and the ocean waves. Then, beginning at the top, I painted the ocean and sandy beach with it's pools of trapped water. I painted the figures from left to right focusing on the 'typical' poses and colorful garb. I then put in the 'stacks' of sand on the beach, so indicative of the quest for clams."
