"From the viewpoint of a high deck over the water, I captured a mature gull soaring 'over the waves'.”

Artist comment: "This simple composition looks easy, but it was complex to paint. I had to concentrate on the shapes of the ripples to create a believable background of flowing water. My husband and I stopped in Warrenton, Oregon, and from a parking area overlooking the Columbia River, we were 'boat watching'. Curious gulls circled us and I had the opportunity to observe them from above. I used pastel on Canson Mi-Teintes textured paper. I finished the background, then the gull. It was a fun challenge.”
