What the Market Will Bear

I originally painted this in 2009 for a group show at the main gallery that represents me in Los Angeles, Gallery1988. I really wanted to depict the hilarity on Wall Street and the crisis of US economy at the height of the recession. Oddly enough, a gallery rep in Hong Kong purchased the original and after building a relationship with him, he now represents me in Asia. Print is 24 inches wide by 8 inches high and titled "What the Market Will Bear". I love recycling materials whenever I can, so the original painting uses paper I've collected in the past from packing materials and wrapped gifts. The way I incorporate this paper is a signature style of mine, and adds another layer of depth, grit, and interesting texture to each piece when I paint my final piece over it. I use a technique that is somewhat like papier-mâché over the whole surface of the canvas. Then I seal and paint my imagery with acrylic on top. My choice of medium is acrylic paint. I'm generally a fast painter...correction, an impatient painter, so I love acrylic for is fast-drying properties. In the final stage, I seal with 2 layers of varnish and fasten a sturdy hanging wire to the back. To purchase a print of this, please visit my etsy website:
