What Rises in the East Must Set in the West

This painting depicts China as the new world leader trouncing on the American dollar with animals. I painted the original painting in 2011 as a commission for a businessman in Hong Kong with a great sense of humor. This piece is titled "What Rises in the East, Must Set in the West" and prints at 12 inches wide by 6 inches tall. I really wanted to use strong symbolic colors of red for the bull, showing his branding of the Chinese flag. The bear, still promoting his liberties has dragged his old flag with him as he pleads on his knees. But it's too late, the Chinese bull has already crushed the American dollar and stands tall as the new world leader. The scene takes place on a part of the Great Wall that has crumbled and started to decay, but the rest remains intact and strong. I love recycling materials whenever I can, so the original painting uses paper I've collected in the past from packing materials and wrapped gifts. The way I incorporate this paper is a signature style of mine, and adds another layer of depth, grit, and interesting texture to each piece when I paint my final piece over it.
