"On a beautiful windswept bluff, 245 feet above the sea, stands Oregon's highest, most southerly, most westerly, and longest continuously operated light. Boasting a first order Fresnel lens, this lonely sentinel saw another first. In 1903, a Mrs. Bretherton was officially appointed as Oregon's first female lighthouse keeper."

Artist comment: "This is another in my series of West Coast lighthouses. Dominating the coastline, I think this one is my favorite. The view is spectacular. The setting serene. I really enjoyed my visit there. I would have loved to have been Mrs. Bretherton! In my studio later, I recreated, with oil on canvas, the memory of the occasion. In this painting, the composition is a triangle with trees on either side for balance. A few swishes of dry grass in the foreground and ‘voila’, mission accomplished!"
