Cape Disappointment Light Station

"Still tended by the U.S. Coast Guard, this structure stands at an elevation of 200 feet on a bluff overlooking the dangerous waters of the Columbia bar. The light was illuminated in 1856 and is surrounded by Fort Canby State Park near Ilwaco, Washington."

Artist comment: "Cape Disappointment Light Station is recognizable from far out at sea by cargo vessels, marine fishermen, and sports sailors alike. It's bold black stripes indicate to them where they are off the rugged Washington Coast. I have visited this lighthouse and looked out over the ocean and marvelled at the engineering skill of her builders. In my studio, later, I painted, with oil, the scene as the late day sun glows upon her. Then I finished by painting the light, which flashes red and white, and the radio array (a modern aid to navigation)."

"Cape Disappointment Light Station" is a limited edition, giclée print from an original oil painting by Carol Thompson. Edition length is 2050 authorized, signed, limited edition prints (2000 numbered and 50 artist proofs). So sorry Carol, this painting is so perfect that when I looked at it I thought it was a photo. I had already sent the message when I realized it wasn't -- from Kate
