Refugee

I painted this piece in the midst of the War on Iraq. Up until this point I had been unaware of my feelings regarding the war, preferring to block it out and concentrate on my own issues. When the piece was finished I realized it had come directly from my subconscious frustration over the situation and a desire to express what I believe many people felt through that confusing time- a feeling a complete helplessness towards our future as a nation.

Compassionate yet startling. Wonderfully understated visually. You're the whisper heard over the shout.
