prairie dog

This was the first time at are zoo that I have ever seen the prairie dog's out. There were two of them and when we made it to the outside in- closer the Dogs started going in to a defense mode. When I looked over my shoulder I saw why, a large Red-Tailed Hawk was in the air, both dogs headed to the hole for safety but only one head back in the other stay out and after the Hawk left the area the he went back to sunny himself on the log. Photo taken with a Nikon D5000 and a 300mm lens.

Interesting portrait of this alert critter. I'm glad you "got him" and not the hawk.

Artist Reply: Thank Janelle, if you look at my photos here I have a-lot of hawk shots but I could not miss the chance to get these beautiful guy/girl.
