Beautiful work on Canson paper. Have you ever tried 600 grit sandpaper with pastels?
Artist Reply: Hi Evonne, and thanks!
No, actually this was my first attempt at pastels. I had inherited some from my late father-in-law, and then added a few more and bought the pack of paper at the local art supply store. (I don't think they even carry the sandpaper-thank goodness for Jerry's and Dick Blick) I decided to try this in pastel thinking it would be faster than colored pencil because I had a small window of time to make it into a competition. It was somewhat faster and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised at the result. I intend to do some more, and will try the sandpaper, especially if it means results like your beautiful work! Thanks again for taking the time to comment.
The fur is just incredibly realistic..can't wait to see your next!
Artist Reply: Next is a color pencil yellow lab head set in a duck blind. I may use some pastel for the sky/background. But there's no rush on this one and the pastels are SO MESSY! It took two days to get the dust taste out of my mouth and nose lol. Thanks for following along.
