Saint Francis of Assisi

Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals is painted as a stain glass design pattern. A neighborhood racoon visited my studio one day and I decided since St. Francis had lived outdide among the animals, I would include this curious visitor. The San Damiano Crucifix of St. Francis is on the left side of the painting which measures 36" x 24" and is in oil on wood. Prayer cards from the artist, Sue Pieri, are available with the following Peace Prayer of St. Francis on the back: Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand, to be loved as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

Very nice Susan, a statue of St. Francis watches over all of natures critters that gather in my back yard.

He is one of my favorite saints, and I have a statue of him in my cat cemetary surrounded by cat statues. Raggedy and Misty are buried there. Thank you for this beautiful portrait.
