Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals is painted as a stain glass design pattern. A neighborhood racoon visited my studio one day and I decided since St. Francis had lived outdide among the animals, I would include this curious visitor. The San Damiano Crucifix of St. Francis is on the left side of the painting which measures 36" x 24" and is in oil on wood. Prayer cards from the artist, Sue Pieri, are available with the following Peace Prayer of St. Francis on the back: Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand, to be loved as to love; for it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
