Danse Macabre : Tribal Fusion

"Danse Macabre : Tribal Fusion!" She is the first in my new series called "Danse Macabre". Danse Macabre (literally, Dance of Death) - was a very common theme for many late Medieval allegorical paintings. The allegory being of course that the dance of death is inevitable and unites us all. How macabre! I have decided to create a more literal and visual take on the centuries-old tradition - combining skeletal imagery with some of my favourite dance imagery! I hope to touch on many forms of dance in subsequent pieces. This first painting celebrates Tribal Fusion - a contemporary vein of bellydance that I love. I've shown the beautiful dancing maiden surrounded by skeletons - atmospheric colouring & shadow abound. My own original acrylic painting. ©Jasmine Becket-Griffith - prints are available at http://www.strangeling.com and http://zazzle.com/strangeling*
