"Solitude", 12" by 16" oil on canvas, was painted at Avon-by-the-Sea, New Jersey, USA, by American impressionist artist Hilary J. England. It was a bright, cool, late winter day, and the beach was peaceful with only a smattering of fishermen, and a few folks walking their dogs, jogging, etc. This was done en plein air, utilizing a limited palette, thinned 1/2 linseed oil, half turpenoid.

I love that wild sea! Beautiful sand too!

Artist Reply: Yes, it was high tide, and the water was abit on the wild side...and the sand and sea were so nice and bright, even in the coolness of the winter, since it wasn't very cold, actually rather mild for winter. I am going back to the shore this weekend for some more paintings...
