Mission: Impossible

© 2010 Armando Salas and Editorial La Capital. ---- When I get a phone call from NORDESIA (weekly cultural magazine) I know my role is the one of Tom Cruise: "Mission: Impossible". They usually use simple photos but sometimes the suitable ones aren't available for the subject and this is why I hear "Houston, we have a problem", I mean, "Salas, we have a problem" :-) ---- This time they published an article about Settaro Theather (Opera), destroyed by a fire 200 years ago. They only had the bottom image, a schematic design. I searched on Internet for complementary images and this one was the result. It was a hard and complex work indeed. ------ Upper image: NORDESIA cover. Bottom image: the only pic available about Settaro Theather.

Delia Pacheco 25 Feb 2010

very nicely done...you are so talented and have so much expression with you characters, no matter what style.

Artist Reply: Thank you very much, Delia. My main activity is as comics designer. Comic has its own language, in a way very similar to the cinematographic one. It forces to search for the greater effectiveness in the narration, and the face expressions, lights and shades, perspective, etc. are fundamental. I always try to use these elements to obtain a greater effectiveness in all my work (it's a kind of trick and IT WORKS!!!: -) --- Just yesterday night I was watching a movie I already knew: "Braveheart". Well: the most impressive sequence for me is the one of the revenge, when Gibson returns to the village: slowed down images, the helmets of the horse striking the ground, silence most of time… Those images have more visual and narrative force than those that show the bloody revenge. Art is a continuous learning; at least I learn something new every day :-)

Gracias amigo Armando.

Anneke Hut 25 Feb 2010

Nelly van Nieuwenhuijzen 25 Feb 2010

FANTASTIC WORK!! The design, the composition of the several images has been done in creative and powerful way!! The fire is making it so vivid! "Salas", you did a wonderful job for them, you resolved the problem in splendid way!

Artist Reply: It's so funny to read "Salas" from you :-) since all my AW friends use to say "Armando". During 40 years all my coworkers used that surname (Salas) to call me and all people and friends do the same. Only the family and close friends use "Armando". BTW my kids always say "viejo" (=old man) and only when ask for money they say "papá" :-)))

Stefani Wehner 25 Feb 2010

fantastic composition, Armando. Excellently done!

Seth Weaver 25 Feb 2010

You are an ARTISTIC "clever rascal" Armando.

Artist Reply: "Artist" and "clever" not sure. But "rascal" IT'S A FACT! :-)))
