"Y Ahora Que?" is a piece inspired by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that took place in 1848 that ended the Mexican American War. Their is a Mexican soldier sitting on a rock depressed, thinking on how hard he fought in the war. He is holding a map that outlines the territories taken by the United States according to the Treaty. Barbed wire is throughout the painting signifying the new borders and restrictions. So now what? ( Y Ahora Que?) Also note their is thirty stars on the American Flag, representing the states in the Union at the time.
