Daniel Batten 25 Jul 2010

This one speaks to me the most on this wave of works. I really like the turmoil, almost flames, in the sky. Kind of reminds me of a image of one's own inner hell. I love the sea and sailing, and this definitely moves me to want to sail into that sunrise. The idea of dying at sea, is not nearly as scary as dying by disease. I also loved "Laura" and "The Flock" as Laura speaks to me in the lonesome serenity that comes by patiently waiting for the rain to stop.

Artist Reply: Daniel, thank you so much for your wonderful comment on my work! I really appreciate it!

Bruce Combs 20 Jul 2009

I am absoliutely stunned -- with joy! Not at anyone's misfortune as with anyone stranded in the boat in this tumultuous and firery sea, but in response to your proving once more that you can do ANYTHING. What an inspiration for all of us other artists! For all people! And there are so many things for an imagination to play with here; so many varieties of strokes and mixtures of colors. Right above here in the ZOOM, the orange-red-sort of ribbons remind me of a kind of candy popular in the United States during the Christmas season. Someone else might easily see bacon, a bit cheesy. I want to endorse those before me who mention the overal intensity and also the depth. Looking at it, I see a kind of long hill (blue with the white fish-like bits along the top). To me it seems like a ridge coming from our upper left down toward the right. The other side of it, then, seems to me lower down, as a little valley. I don't remember ever noticing anybody achieving that kind of topographic up and down within a painting before. Perhaps that is only my shortcoming, BUT it remains true, however dense I am, that our brightest shining star (anybody wanna fight about that?) was able to make me see something in a painting that I had not been aware of before. I think that most of us have that goal: to keep learning to see, and thus learning to create, from all of each other's painting ideas and techniques. And ArtWanted, in the few weeks that I have been here seems to me very much a team a lot of the time, helping and encouraging each other to grow in our art -- in our efforts to create more beauty in the universe. And I am so impressed and humble at the opportunity to be here learning and playing among so many kind and talented people. And who fits that description more fully and with more modesty than Ms Anneke Hut!

Artist Reply: Dear Bruce, to be an inspiration for other people is probably the highest goal I have. When I read your thoughtful and beautiful words you give me hope that I succeeded. I love it that you see all the things in the painting that are there unintentionally, but make me see my own work with new eyes.To make these abstract paintings is still an adventure for me, I'm used to have more control on what I'm doing, but it has been a wonderful experience for the greatest part inspired by you, for which I thank you truly . So here we are again at the very first meaning of art, inspiring others! I thank you so much for your wonderful compliments, my friend!

Karen Johnson 20 Jul 2009

Stunning! How on earth did you do this painting?

Artist Reply: Haha I have asked myself that question too, Karen!! It's painted on plastic sheet, the ones that are used for printers. First I have used a painted canvas (still wet) put it as kind of stamp on the sheet and then I just painted over it, that's all. I'm glad you like it, thank you very much!! :)
