The Lonely Walk Home

This is the first of a series of desert paintings, inspired by the end of the greatest adventure of my life. The thing I find most interesting about this piece is how it translates in the minds of others. I painted it at one of the lowest points in my life, however, several friends with serious illnesses have interpreted it as a sign of hope.

I think perhaps the reason so many people see it as a sign of hope is because the figure is walking towards the sun. If the figure was walking away from the sun I think it would come across as less hope filled. I find this piece to be superb. I exspecially like the dynamics, and the monocromatic feel with the central figure in sillouet.
