A sad story with this fence. Originally it didn't have the horizontal bar above the finials and after a flower garden made the ground soft, deer would lose their footing while attempting a normal simple jump over the fence. They ended up empaling themselves on the cast steel finials! The horizontal "trip bar" works and now the deer are just embarrassed.

Thank you for solving the problem!! It still looks great!! How high does a fence have to be to keep them out?? They are incredible jumpers!!!Warren Ballard 14 Jun 2009
Nice photos Jerry. I've often wondered about those points on iron fences. This is a good solution, better than burning or grinding them off.Sharon Gonzalez 14 Jun 2009
FEEL SAD FOR THE DEER WHO MADE THE SAFETY BAR A REQUIREMENT, BUT YOUR FENCE, JERRY, IS BEAUTIFUL BOTH WAYS. AND THE PHOTOS ARE BOTH GORGEOUS. VERY BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY THERE.ruth sears 14 Jun 2009
what a horrible thing to happen to the deer, but I love this fence and your wonderful capture of it.Regina Coeli deWinter 14 Jun 2009
I applaud the adding of the safety bar, jerry. Lovely fence either way.
