The Girl

This is a derivative work that I sketched off a coupon that came in the mail from a well-known woman's apparel shop. The coupon was for a free pair of underwear. My focus with art is not on females but this picture caught my attention for several reasons.

Heck, I've done drawings from ads I saw in the newspaper, so I know the feeling of having a source of inspiration suddenly fall into your lap. :)

Artist Reply: This is how I view derivative artwork: Let's say a craftsman builds a beautiful chair of the finest wood and upholstery available. The chair is so striking that a painter wants to include it in their painting. Should they NOT paint it for fear of being sued for modeling someone else's craft? Everything outside of nature that we can see with the human eye is someone's art and our vision. It's from those visions that we derive ideas. But I personally would not sell a derivative without providing compensation to the inspiring artist; with the exception of artists and photographers who work with or for the government, in a capacity of public projects and/or funds. Thanks for stopping by Nancy.
