Emergence I

Emergence I 18" X 24" Oil on Canvas. I was exploring the idea of 'emergence'. so, I wanted to show this energy issuing forth from the earth. The earth arose where the energy eminated. All around the earth cracked and bubbled. Broken stones can be seen around this energy. Wooden boards are scattered in the foreground. On the lower left, I just left the underpainting because I liked the form in yellow ocre and decided not to paint over it. The energy emerging from the earth is like fire and it's like water; at the same time it is like a sculpture, solid in form. The viewer can disern an upward movement. This energy is also like the feathers of a bird soaring upward in wings of flight. To the left and to the right of this energy there are forms that are nebulous. They could be thought forms in the making. They are etherial, flowing like the movement of the wind. I wanted to include the four elements in this work, earth, air wind and fire or at least these qualities. The unfinished form in yellow ocre is like a sarcophagus, it too is cracked like the earth around it. The colors are bright and vibrant, very much like the elements. The blue of the sky hints at something that is hidden, a mystery behind the sky.

The excitement of a soul reaching its heights and more is the promise offered in this painting.
