My Beautiful Girl

This is my first attempt at oil pastels. Have no idea what I'm doing... any helpful comments would be great!

Kimberlee, this is such an adorable portrait, and you did a great job using the oil pastels considering it was your first attempt! Have you tried using soft pastels as opposed to oils? The reason I'm asking is, they are so much easier to blend and can't be beat for doing portraits (in my opinion, of course).

Artist Reply: Thank you Sherrie! I have just started using soft pastels and I do prefer them. I'm trying to teach myself so it's a little slower than I had hoped. Your work is fantastic by the way!

Hi Kimberly. I am not too familiar with oil pastels, but I do a lot of portraits. The skin tones look good, but you might want to use some blues or greens to add depth as you start to go beneath the hairline and below the eyebrow ridge. Cooler colors work well for shadows in portraits. I love her eyes and lower lip. Best parts of the image. She looks lovely. Ari

Artist Reply: Thanks a lot for your help! I will definitely try that with my next one.
