This is a drawing of my younger brother. I have no sisters, but three brothers. The older one is my step-brother, Chuck,Wendell, here, is my younger half-brother, the youngest is my adopted brother Darnell. I do not call Wendell my half-brother. I call him my brother. I found this picture of him when he was two years old, and it reminded me that I had not done one of him yet, and should have. He is the immediate family paternal overseer, banker, caregiver, and strength. My step-dad, his father, has been gone for 18 years now. In the time since, by brother raised his daughter virtually alone. His first wife, although I liked her very much, was a disappointment to us all. A certain kind of abuse on her part put a wedge between their lives together. I had thought my son would become the owner of the afore-mentioned titles, but it is, sadly, not to be. He is young and was well on his way, yet not tied to my mother and me, but, to take on the new paternal mantle when he became stricken with the loss of his eyesight from an "out of the blue" disease, so it has been a life of reconditioning, and re-assessing of family structure. Recently, my brother and I had a rift of sorts. He proclaiming my insidious loss of happiness, and not being helpful to his plight in this situation. Of course, I was angered, even saddened, but I know if any one of us needs his support, he will give it. So, I have been putting aside my art to tend to things left in negligence, to try and correct myself. Not having been a constant participant at AW, for a while, I wanted to show a piece I have been working on. It will be finished soon. I had planned on giving it to my brother for Father's Day, but alas, he has no desire to possess any art that I do, even as a gift. Neverthe less, here is my thank you to my brother for being here on this earth. I was particularly proud to have a little brother when he was born, and here is a drawing of him when I could take joy in kissing his chubby cheeks. I know, my story is sappy, and not unique. Please forgive me. Wendell, I will always love you beyond anything you throw at me, and happy belated Father's Day to you. Your sis, C. PS Clay drawing coming son.

sorry for the riff in your family, Carliss. I shall keep you in prayer and thought that you both receive the blessings of peace in the family. I wonder what not being able to see with my eyes is like all to often, praying that your young man adjust and accepts. . . .very fine pencil drawing of this ever so cute little man. love, jo

Artist Reply: Thanks Joanna, for you wonderful comment, and your prayers for our piece. Yes, my son does seem to be getting acclimated. Braille, and cane lessons are catching on to him very well. I think I am more sad than he is.
