Nate and Gunner

This is Nate, of Hunt Nebraska, and his awesome dog Gunner. My husband hunted with them last fall and thought so much of both he had me do this drawing as a gift. 16"X20"

WOW!!! Truly amazing work!

Artist Reply: Thank you Christie! I think this may be my favorite ever. It was a real challenge with many hours, but lots of fun to do... So many textures.

This is incredible!!!!! Wow!!!Excellent detail..beautiful use of tone!!! What is the size of the finished work Marlene? You have to tell me how you did that grass?? This is definately one of the best pencils I have ever seen!!

Artist Reply: Thanks Vickie! Such an honor to be noticed and questioned by such a talent as you. Glad you brought the size thing to my attention. I never posted it because other sites have a spot to enter it, and didn't realize this one doesn't. This one is 16X20 but it felt like 116X120! Thought I would never get done! I didn't really keep track, but approx 50 hours. The grass...when my husband showed me the reference photos he took and told me he wanted that background too, I looked at him like he was NUTS! But I got out the electric eraser and put in the dark and medium values, then went at it like a crazy woman with the eraser. I toned it down then went back in with some highlights. That grass took almost as long as the dog! Now, fess up on how you got such smooth skin tones in, especially, Hunter. ;-)

your kidding me - this is pencil work, I could have sworn it was a photo..........my goodness, the hours put in this must have been long........I'm gobsmacked and find your work such a pleasure

Artist Reply: Thanks so much Fiona. I figure this took about 50 hours, but didn't keep close track. I tend to forget to pay attention to time when drawing. :-P

Wonderfully realistic drawing, Marlene and a great gift! I live in eastern NE and know a few hunters here ; )

Artist Reply: Thanks Kate. This guide was a really nice kid according to my husband. And the dog was even better! He figured out PDQ that my husband would pull the thorns from his feet and started coming over and lifting his paws after he dropped the bird. Poor thing was awfully scratched up at the end of the hunt, but he lives for it.

You are kidding me, Marlene! This is NOT a photo? Wow! What a very awesome pencil drawing/painting! Unbelievable! Incredible! Fantastic!!!

Artist Reply: Thanks Sharon! This was a really fun one to do because of all the different tones and textures. I think I must have a touch of OCD...lol.
