To understand how unknown or forgotten this is, when I was there in 2000, my friend and I were the only people there besides the hordes of begging children.
A Powerful and fantastic shot where an image tells a thousand words. Given the cruelty in today's world and the horrors and massacre of Pol Pot, we need to be reminded of the horror that our species is capable of. Then it was Cambodia and today it is Iraq and terrorists. We can't pretend we are blind to blatant and horrific cruelty. Outstanding shot enhanced in b&w.
to find such beautiful shapes an shadows in such a sad scene is wonderful. we are all just piles of bones in the end. but beautiful bones. the black and white works well here.
oh my God.... Phnom Penh... what a disturbing shot.... unbelievable. Thanks for downloading it to remind us Cat!
Artist Reply: It was one of the most difficult experiences of my life, Olga, and I was just an observer wondering at the senseless cruelty of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. I cried for a very long time after I visited this monument, but that's not enough. I try to make sure now that people know of this horror, and that it's going on still throughout the world. It's a tough image to view, but I think that it needs to exist, not disappear as so many in Cambodia would like.
