Girl Power: Marie Antoinette

Marie Antoinette was a strong woman with tremendous control over her emotions. She has been much maligned and misunderstood. Born under the poweful and sometimes dark sign of Scorpio, she made the journey to France from her native Austria to become queen to a weak and needy king. So many cruel myths and distortions have been handed out in her name. The most notorious and well known was that she told the starving poor ' Let them eat cake!' This story first emerged a hundred years before the appearance of Marie Antoinette, and was credited to the Spanish princess who married Louis X1V. However, it's a great sound bite and too useful to lose!! Later, when the revolution was in full pelt, she fell victim to the sadistic, and mysoginistic Robespierre, who believed that women were inferior and dangerous. She stood up to her tormenting abuser with great bravery and went to the scaffold with dignity in spite of becoming desperately ill while in prison. The Queen is dead! Long live the Queen!!!. Oil on circular canvas board 40cms PS. For anyone interested in the life of Marie Antoinette look no further than the Biography written by Lady Antonia Fraser 'Marie Antoinette: The Journey'

You seem to have captured her regal attitude that's for certain, and the clothes and hairdo is fabulous! Perfect! Love reading all the background write-ups too, very informative. Excellent oil painting. :o)
