The song was simple, plaintive and elegant. The voice was clear and sweet devoid of emotions other than caring. There was an absent, distant, unconscious quality as it were a woman doing the dishes, putting a child to sleep, rehearsing a lover's new song or just the sound someone makes on a peaceful morning when you remember a song that you heard on the radio the night before and have it stuck in your head. The song stopped. The traffic sounds became more musical, the wind a loving whisper, the breathing of the cat on the bed an intimate closeness, and the sunlight dimmed slightly as a cloud passed on its way home.
