Blessed Kateri

This is my latest icon, named Kateri. She is what the Catholic Church call a 'blessed', which is the step a beloved individual is placed in, just prior to being considered a saint. This very special young lady, born in 1656 near New York, the daughter of a Mohawk warrior. At the age of 20, she was baptized, and incurred great hostility due to her faith. But dipite it, she loved God so much, it was hard for her to turn away her beliefs. She is also responsible for many conversions of the Native people after her death at the tender age of 24. Called,'The Lil Of The Mohawks', I thought it was high time she be captured as art. -size:4x6 -mixed media:ink, art marker, watercolor pencil, acrylics
