The Calico Formation - named for obvious resons. The red and light rocks are reversed in time - a very unique geological occurence. Turtle Mountain is to the right behind the vibrant, sun lit rock formation.
these are my favorites Greg.. do you think a glacier passing through might have simply upturned the earth, putting the striations in opposition of the geological norm? interesting stuff.
Wish i'd been a fly on the wall but then again,, I'd be locked in a piece of amber by now.. Your textural shots are always my favorites..keep hiking my friend..
Artist Reply: There was a sign explaining it on the trail - and I have the memory of moss - so I forgot what it said - wasn't a glacier - I think two different uplifts and one slid on top of the other - at least, that seems reasonable if not accurate. I'll keep hiking and reading.
