I had a blast painting this one; I worked on it for a while at a "Meet the Artist" event at which no one showed up...then, licking my wounds, figured that at least I got a painting out of it that I liked. Usually my kids eat the apples faster than I can paint them, but this was one I knocked out rather quickly. I love still lifes which are a bit narrative or theatrical, if you will...not "found" still lifes, which to me are random and scary, but arranged still lifes which seem to be a bit more like a collection of symbolic actors on a stage. Not that there's much symbolism here: maybe the bird and rose symbolizing life and freedom, and the apple---uh,...health? I guess this one is less about symbolism than it is the playful visual interaction between the objects and the bird on the fabric. If you follow my work, you'll see the birds in this fabric show up a lot. You'll often see paintbrushes included, too (though not in this one)---as stand-ins for me, the artist. This one has been sold, and prints are not available, but it's here as a portfolio piece. I do indeed accept commissions of all sizes in both oil and watercolor, and would love to hear from you. As any artist does, I do retain all copyright and reproduction rights on every work I sell, and ask that you do not reproduce or distribute my images in any way. Thanks for looking!
