Self Assured. Watching. Waiting. His time was at hand. It would come. He was sure of that. For he held the key. He had the one thing everyone wanted. He held the comedy of their souls and could shed it with a stab at any moment. He could jab their hearts and minds and make them aware of the endless pit of emptiness they had in store for them if they crossed him. But, then, he wouldn't do that. Would he? A smile glittered toward him in a smear of lips and teeth. The eyes sparkled with the light of laughter. Then the face looked away, forgetting him, ignoring him, rendering him invisible. A chill settled over his scalp as he thought, realized, became aware, woke up, and saw the scene before him in clarity, as if he had put on glasses for the first time in his life. He shivered. He was, after all, just a comic. The thought made him more bitter, more angry, more desperate... and more humorous.
