Remind me of Summer...

Unknown flower type, taken in a photoshoot last summer (2007) in the outskirts of Valletta (Malta), just below Fort St.Elmo. Photo Not Edited P.S. if anyone knows the kind of flower in the shot please comment!

This flower is a Malve (in Maltese: Hubbejza [Z, bit-tikka,]) I am in Germany at the moment, but I even know exactly where you came across this plant; down the steep steps below Dar il Mediterran, then left towards the Defence Boom. It, however, is very common in Malta. Here in the north it survives only the summer, but in Malta, where the weather is so mild it survives the years, forms thick woody stalkes up to 150cm high.
