Peace Dies

Not all paintings are meant to be charming and attractive. Throughout the history of art there have been paintings that have reflected the horrors and tragedies of humankind and challenged artists to portray these atrocities. In my daily meditations I reflect upon the previous night's dreams or terrors. I allow my mind to travel where my soul needs me to be. Where I have been summoned to is not always where I wish to go. What I have witnessed becomes this artist's responsibility to depict. It is my artist's duty, as it were. And that duty becomes Karma. A Karma that must be fulfilled. And for me to be remiss and not to paint what vision I observed would be an affront to my calling. Even though I wish I had not been summoned to illuminate the darkness that I beheld. This darkness that sometimes creeps into our shared humanity. But perhaps this artist's night terrors might help convey a dispatch from the other side reminding us that violence to the smallest of us is a violence to us all. visionary imagist "Joey"

In reference to your first few sentences..have you ever read the org. stories for children...not the disney ones. They were created to scare children! Wonderful art! Life is not always cheerful but we certainly do our best!

Artist Reply: Jessica: I remember when i was young some of the "fairy" tales I heard were quite frightening to say the least. I agree with what you said about life. We think alike I believe.

That its a good and intelligent masterpice, make the peoples talking about... And that make me thaugh about free and to much easy violences on peacefull and desarmed creatures like a bird, like a child... Very touching.

Artist Reply: Vivianne: Paintings are a way of conveying great themes and ideas. I am glad that you understood my little attempt. Thank you again.

How very SAD And totally cruel ,Terror or violence in all forms physically or verbally can be.I think each of us , as artists has a responsibility to let it out ,each in his/her own way. As a person who born and live in a country of wars and terror..I know how terrible these can be at times.And..I know each of us can do different things...Personally I prefer to think positively...LET IT BE PEACE ALWAYS..LET IT STAY HERE ,THERE ALWAYS FOR ME..FOR THEM FOR US. Very POWERFUL Work Visionary Imagist.

Artist Reply: Nira: Your words have touched me deeply. I am grateful for your comments and hope for you and yours and all of the world the peace that is so desperately needed. I am a fan of your artwork as well. Please stop back again. I do so value your insights. Shalom. Pax. Namaste.

Joey, this is such a strong image... the muted colours...it reminds me of an old Renaissance painting. The symbolism of this beautiful painting is of all times. There is not a soul in the world who will not know what you meant by it. It is good to give this theme all the attention that is needed. Let us prepare for peace not war.

Artist Reply: Gabrielle: Yes, peace must reign. I pray and reflect daily on the spread of peace and justice throughout the whole world. My art is my humble attempt to foster that desire. Thanks for noticing my attempt at bringing peace about.

Da Vinci would understand the dark and the duality of mankind. fine artisitic interpretation. however, our wonderful ancestors the various tribes of native Americans thanked the deer and buffalo for their sacrafice as providers of food for the tribe--so I don't believe it is wrong to eat meat necessarily. however, trophy hunting is a sin and should be avoided.l

Artist Reply: Joe: I am glad that you understood my effort. I love to place out there my art to see what response it will profert. I love the whole process of making and creating and the response my art creates as well. Thanks again.

Tahnja Wolter 13 Oct 2007

powerfully painful and disturbingm. Accurate in account and in verbal portrayal. Killing for hunt only has always despised me and fortunately it's not too commonly in Australia. That was one thing I detested in the States. A person once tried to get me to go into this guys house who had deer heads all through his house proudly displayed as trophies and I found that disgusting and flat out refused.

Artist Reply: Tahnja: All sentient creature have value and are to be respected and honored. What happens to the smallest eventually happens to us all. Thanks for your continuing support.

Reba McDonald 13 Oct 2007

Maria Murphy 12 Oct 2007

First, this is a beautiful painting.Painted with such care finesse. Second, unlike your first comment,I disagree with Ann,I believe where ever you can spread a message of importance about something you care and believe in.you must do so.If that means through your gift, which is poetry and art so be it.After all that is your lifes purpose.I don't believe in sticking your head in sand and forgetting about the worlds troubles for one second, "Violence to the smallest of us is a violence to us all"What amazing words. As a vegetarian,I find this painting heartbreaking ,but I understand it had to be painted.I hope you keep sending these messages and paintings,That is what art is all about.!!!!!!!!!!!

Artist Reply: Maria: Your valued words encourage this simple artist to remain firm in his duty and convictions. The world is so vast and so large that there is room for everyone and everything. I enjoy all the comments that I receive and especially the blossoming friendship that occur. Art has brought us all together. Why? I do not know. But it has happened and I am very much the wiser and better for it. Thank you for your inspiring words and I look forward to the ever expanding horizons we share.

Bluemoonshadow 12 Oct 2007

Reminds me of a poem I read long long time ago.. about a nightingale giving her life for her beloved so she could give him the red rose he wanted instead of a white one... Very dramatic painting, Joey..

Artist Reply: Bluemoonshadow: What a great poem that must be. Do you remember the author's name? I would enjoy reading it. I have been reading some of Rumi's beautiful works lately. He is one of my favorites. Thanks for commenting on my art. Namaste!

Ann Fawssett-Atkin 12 Oct 2007

Very well painted VI......I personally think however that as John Updyke wrote in his capacity as art critic in Just Looking: 'Art should body forth the idyllic'. To me the purpose of Art is to portary a place where the mind/soul can 'live' while looking at the painting - or listening to a piece of music - as a respite from the cares and terrors of the world. There are enough of them rightly shown to us in their proper place on the TV and in newspapers etc. However this is just my take on the subject..............

Artist Reply: Ann: Ann the world of art is quite large and I agree that art should allow for those precious moments you describe. Your art definitely does allow me to do just what you suggested. I am in your debt for your insightful remarks and comments. Thank you again for sharing with me a bit of your art and outlook. Thanks my friend

annette steens 12 Oct 2007

Prorect All forms of Life is a lesson to mankind, Joey. Killing for defense ourself is NEVER good. Therefore there are still wars because people are learned through presidents (authorities) that we have ennemies but it's all in the head of those powerpeople! Mankind has to learn to think for themselves and than they will chose ALWAYS for peace . Killing people and animals is never accepted by the Law of the Universum We must kill the Animal within!!!!!! Art is perfect like this painting to show how we can change our thoughts and behaviour to the good things of Eternal Life. Thanks Joey!

Artist Reply: Anneette: Your insightful words mimic mine. When we all realize that our enemies are not our enemies but our brothers and sisters maybe the world will awaken and a new world begin. Thanks for your powerful and heartfelt remarks. Thanks for being my artist friend.

Cathy Savels 11 Oct 2007
