Greetings Ladies and Gentlemen, this is Jerry Stith the founder of an American folk art program called Ballpoint Pen Art. I started drawing with a ballpoint pen in 1968 and at that time black, blue and red inks could be found. Bic put out a great dark green pen shortly after that which really altered my artworks and perspective.***** Pen & Ink has been around fore over four thousand years and mostly black or some form of brown inks were available during that time. Pen and Inks certainly changed this world via writing and drawing however never seemed to advance in the color department till an oil-based ballpoint ink came along. Weak see through colors from dip, fountain or tech pens simply didn't fill the bill when it came to coloring. An oil-based ink could produce a half plus full tone lines or colors and that made all the difference. Dark thick oil-based colors vastly improved pen and ink artworks.***** Inks were around thousands of years before most other art mediums ever got invented. However, among the last to produce full toned, rich or beautiful colors! I think that's why pen and ink lost much popularity throughout the centuries within our art community. That's why I'm introducing, posting or publishing dark blue and black ink artworks like this one via ArtWanted.com.***** BallPoint pens today only come with three tip sizes. A bold, regular and fine tip is what we have to work with. Please remember, how many lines it takes to fill in a solid black background or dark blue area within a picture like this one my friends. Next, remind yourself that changing lines when using ink is pretty much out of the question. I would suggest that people use 120 lbs. paper or thicker if really dark ballpoint pen lines or areas are to be used within your works.
