In Christian hagiography Saint George - The Saint who killed the Dragon (ca. 275-281April 23, 303) was a soldier of the Roman Empire, from the then Greek-speaking Anatolia, now modern day Turkey, who was venerated as a Christian martyr. Saint George is one of the most venerated saints in the Eastern Orthodox Church and Oriental Orthodox Churches. Immortalised in the tale of George and the Dragon, he is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and is the patron saint of Aragón, Canada, Catalonia, England, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Montenegro, Portugal, Serbia, Russia, and Palestine, as well as the cities of Beirut, Ljubljana, Freiburg and Moscow, as well as a wide range of professions, organisations and disease sufferers.
