This is just so unbeleivable!!!! Amazing!!!

Artist Reply: Glad you like it Gautam. It took ages to do, but it was a load of fun. I ought to do more scratchboard stuff because I love it.

Kevin Eason 26 Feb 2006

Nice use of scratch board

Artist Reply: Cheers Kev. It was digital scratchboard (Painter's 'Scratchboard Tool' is one of my favourites). Glad you like it.

This is the sort of style and work that I did when I was a young woman. I love this, Stu. Very, very well done. But then you know that! EXCELLENT!

donald yatomi 04 Mar 2004

dude, ignore this anonymous coward. we know that a good computer artist needs to understand the traditional methods first to execute the fundamentals on the computer. show this person your non-digital stuff and shut hi up.....

Anonymous Guest 04 Mar 2004

Cheers Don. It's nice to be appreciated! ~ Stu

Do I make fun of you? Moi? Why Anon, sir, you've upset me. No.. ..no honestly, you really have. goodbye :-)

Anonymous Guest 11 Feb 2004

i think you think you funny but being souless is not funny at all. your so called art is not real and yet you make fun of me !?!. i canot define any clearer to you what truth is if you just make fun. goodbye

Stu Smith 28 Nov 2003

No, sorry. You'll have to make it clearer to me?________ Thanks for your patience - The Soulless One XX

Anonymous Guest 26 Nov 2003

art is when a person makes something that looks good with thier own hands. it must be good and not evil otherwise it is not art just bad. also a computer has no soul and threfore makes your art souless which is shame. i do not need to understand art for i think that i undrstand bettre than you about what is good. do not tempt me again to define my borders

Stu Smith 23 Nov 2003

Cheers Dom. My little friend here has some interesting views on what art is and what it isnt. My definition of art is very broad, it encomp#@&es all types, styles, media, the conventional, the unconventional, the good, the bad and the distasteful. There's a lot of art on the internet that I do not like at all but I still define it as art even if I don't like it. The trouble with a narrow viewpoint is that it's borders have to be precicely defined to make any sense to anyone else. So, I wonder if my anonymous friend would care to make more clearly his/her definition of "Art"? (Now I'm asking for trouble)

Dominic Shooter 15 Nov 2003

Pen, Pencil, Mouse there all tools without interaction from the artist their are all useless, its what you do with em that makes art. Stu all of your work is brilliant! im inspired

Anonymous Guest 04 Nov 2003

i have space on artwanted already but have not yet shown my artwork i do not need for you to buy my artwanted space. all i am saying is that when image is made on computer it loses its soul and therefore is not art. you may be clever at programing but programing is not make you an artist. the computer here has made your image real and not you mostly. some people make filters wich do all the artwork is all i am saying

Studio EarWorm 12 Oct 2003

Well, this is the chattiest comment section I have encountered. I guess after the prerequisite compliments I will have to weigh in on the philosophical issues. Your artwork is excellent -- clear, precise, detailed, etc. As far as computer vs reality, I speak as someone who draws with a mouse, and I have to say that getting digital art to look as good as "real" art is NOT EASY! No, the computer doesn't do it, the artist does it. Anybody who thinks the computer does it should purchase PhotoShop ( or whatever ) and have a go at it...

Stu Smith 12 Oct 2003

Hello again my favourite Annonymous Guest (not you Richard) I'm really interested in hearing more about your opinions regarding digital art versus traditional media and the distinctions in between. Your views are very stimulating to me (really). I've been getting private emails from you but I would love for our discussions be more public so that others may chip-in? And once again, I am eager, nay, desparate to view your artwork and would even consider paying for your space on Artwanted myself! _______kisses, Stuey.

Anonymous Guest 12 Oct 2003

What is the difference between having a digital pen in your hand and a paintbrush, to me about 25% of the time. It is surely the same skill just portrayed in a different as all art is. Richard

Anonymous Guest 07 Oct 2003

also why do these pictures not have color becaus it would be better

Anonymous Guest 07 Oct 2003

when artist uses computer to make image it is computer that does it not artist. it is therefore not art becas computer made it. this is obvious. this is good picture but would be bettre if you had really made it. i make real art with real things but i'm not very good lol

Spam, spam, spam,...wonderful SPAM! All we got is spam and eggs, bacon and spam, spam and sausage, spam and spam. I suggest you put a can of spam on the right side of the drawing, and the huge letters S-P-A-M!

Jordan Lewerissa 24 Sep 2003

I do know exactly what you mean. I'm about to go for an interview to get into art teaching and I've already heard about their close-mindedness towards digital art. I mean, if you can't do it in physical media, how the hell are you going to do it in digital - especially the way you or I work. Hell, sorry to spam up your message board. I'll send an email next time! Here's another rating at least.

Stu Smith 24 Sep 2003

No, it's not technically *real* scratchboard, it is done in Painter (like everything I do) but I reject this notion that digitally created art isn't *proper* art or that to create this on a computer is somehow a lesser skill. I know that you are not accusing me of this Jordan because I know you and I know that you know exactly what I'm getting at. You know? (what did I just write there?)I think I need my blue pills.

Jordan Lewerissa 24 Sep 2003

You and your detail. You're a madman. This is real scratchboard? Sinister indeed.
