Ferruginous Hawk

Animal Art

Ferruginous Hawk
(Buteo regalis)
The ferruginous hawk population-once widespread throughout North America-has declined significantly since the early 1900s, but appears to be stabilizing at roughly one-quarter its original size. They can be found in arid to semiarid regions, as well as grasslands and agricultural areas in southwestern Canada, western United States, and northern Mexico. The Ferruginous Hawk is one of two booted hawks in North America. Like the Rough-legged Hawk, they have feathers that go down the legs to their toes.

Wildlife artist Kathie Miller has rendered this open plains bird with loving details.

Beautiful.. you have a great touch when it comes to the birds.. do you own birds?

Artist Reply: Thank you Barbara for you nice comments. I'm glad you like my work. I had a look at your pieces, just beautiful. I've wanted to learn pastels. Oh, yes, I do have birds. I have a Harris' Hawk and my daughter has a red-tail. I have many friends that have various birds of prey as well.
