Jerusalem of Gold

Photos taken at the "KOTEL HA'MA'AARAVI " - The Western Wall in the midst of the Old City in Jerusalem is the section of the Western supporting wall of the Temple Mount which has remained intact since the destruction of the Second Jerusalem Temple (70 C.E.). It became the most sacred spot in Jewish religious and national consciousness and tradition. On the left side up,you can see the mosque - Dome of the Rock..."Jerusalem, by virtue of the number and diversity of people who have held it sacred, may be considered the most holy city in the world. To the Jewish people it is Ir Ha-Kodesh (the Holy City), the Biblical Zion, the City of David, the site of Solomon's Temple, and the eternal capital of the Israelite nation. To Christians it is where the young Jesus impressed the sages at the Jewish Temple, where he spent the last days of his ministry, and where the Last Supper, the Crucifixion and the Resurrection took place. Also greatly venerated by the Muslims, it is where the prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven. While highly charged with intense religious devotion and visited by countless pilgrims and sages, Jerusalem has also been ravaged by thirty centuries of warfare and strife. It is a place of beauty and divinity, mystery and paradox; a sacred site which no modern spiritual seeker should fail to experience.".....Title taken from Neomi Shemer's song (1967) "English Translation - Mountain air clears as wine, and the scent of pines, is carried by the twilight's breeze with the sound of bells. And in the slumber of tree and stone captured in her dream is the city that sits solitary, and in its midst is a wall. Refrain: Jerusalem of gold And of copper and of light Behold for all your songs I am a violin. How the water cisterns have dried; the market-place is empty and no one frequents the Temple Mount in the Old City And in the caves in the rocks the winds howl And no one descends to the Dead Sea by way of Jericho. Refrain Yet As I come today to sing to you, and to adorn you with crowns I am not as worthy as your youngest child, or as the last one of the poets for your name scorches the lips like the kiss of a seraph if I forget thee, Jerusalem, which is all gold..."....LOVE AND PEACE... .Copyrights Nira Dabush
