Thoughtful~Self Portrait

Midnight Dreamer Studio So here is my first attempt at a self portrait, I used the picture of me on my main portfolio page :) So tell me what you think :) For those of you that dont know the 15 stars and the moon are a tattoo that i have on my left temple (my hair covers it in the picture) and the egyptian ahnk (symbol for everlasting life) is a tatto I gave myself on my left wrist :) I hope you like it :)

So beautiful Leah...all of it...the poem and the drawing and the meaning of the tattoos you wear. An amazing job on the portrait...my question is what do you see when you look at it...did you like it...is it as beautiful for you as for me?

Very nice drawing, its full of emotion and meaning

tim linville 23 Jan 2007

I don't smile for pictures either...I like everything you've done,Leah..very light where it needs to be,and the dark tones and edges seem to be a 'sadness' that shows only where it needs to.A very delicate balance of one's heart and the dark side of humanity that no matter how hard we try, always tries to come from the shadows.Oh,yeah...and quite Foxy, too:)

Amy Jordan 22 Jan 2007

you look so angry and distrusting of those around you. your expression is chock full of raw emotion. excellent rendering!

Bonnie Balasco 20 Jan 2007

her eyes tell me her sporot are strong but they also tell me she does not realize how very stong her soul flys, agaist the wind.

etty yanai 18 Jan 2007

Great work! I love the expression on your eyes. Keep it up!

Charles Jones 17 Jan 2007

Life is fluid, Leah, and so is the beautiful spirit that shines through this drawing. Art is as much 'therapy' for the viewer as it is for the artist. It is obvious that you are doing something you love. That in itself makes you 'loveable' on many levels. Keep up the excellent work!

julie Marks 15 Jan 2007

Leah, This is such a poigant and beautiful self-portrait. The tattos and symbolism are so meaningful in their symbolic expression of your deepest sense of self and your brave spirit as expressed in your wish for everlasting life. I love the pairing of this striking and beautifully detailed drawing with your poetry. It is clear that as you write, "your soul can still love as you see the beauty in the endless sky up above." Without hope, we would wither away. Given your loving and generous spirit, I am so grateful that you are "happy that there is still hope." There are times in our lives that we are solitary to build the strength of character necessary to grow and confront the challenges ahead. As you have written, the road never ends as we search for the "beam of light." You represent the light of hope and your children are lucky to have such a brave, loving mother and creative soul. I love this!!

Vanessa Parra 14 Jan 2007

I think this is my favoritethe combination of text and symbols is quite lovely. great pencil work. It reminds me of the the comic book character the girl "Death" with the ahnk symbol.

I am commenting on this portrait, but it is also meant to apply to your complete portfolio.... Simply put,... extremely deep and full of intense emotions. I love how you can manipulate emotions through the use of a simple pencil. Bravo~looking forward to seeing more of your master works~.

Richard Santos 14 Dec 2006

Victor Rolfe 05 Dec 2006

This is amazing! A brilliant interpretation of a photograph - (to date, all of my own portraits have been based on photos) - and such beautiful pencilwork. The hair is gorgeous and the shading on the face excuisitely subtle. I love it!

Lilly Antoneavic 04 Dec 2006

EXELLENT darwing, Love it just love it... Keep up the good work... Hugs From, Lilly and one cat now...

Henk Van de Kaa 04 Dec 2006

I like this drawing aswell as the photograph. The combination of text and drawing in this selfportrait are very nice. The ankh reminds me of the past, the stars tell your future. Heavy metall on your lip and your big eyes can not hide the truth. You don't look happy but very selfconscious. A universe within that is showing itself to the world outside.

cramer 01 Dec 2006

very nice work! interesting style

Michael Forbus 01 Dec 2006

David Holcombe 23 Nov 2006

Self portraits are wonderful. They tell loads about the artist and their self conception. Here, you look boldly and directly at the subject. Your face is framed with art and with free verse, both important to you. Black and white are always dramatic, as is this portrait.

Joke Schotting 23 Nov 2006

Great selfportrait Leah !!

Christine brand 17 Nov 2006

Intense and deep that look...with the strength of a panther...hold on to your faith, there is so much beauty in your soul...like an ebony diamond. I love your heart, Leah! would you give each one of your children a hug for me every day at least once and say that is from Christine an artist you know? Please. I hope you have a wonderful Holiday and great new year. I think of you always and am glad that things are better these days for you...Lots of love CB
