This is a common plant on sandy heathland such as that found in the area known as the Breckland in England, where I live. It's seeds resemble a Viper's head, hence the name.
Artist Reply: This is one of my favourite flowers. They attract a lot of insects too - especially butterflies and moths. I think they are just as beautiful as any garden species.
