Not often can you look back and see where you started. On the far horizon, at the flat part, is the parking lot where this trail originates. We were a little over 3 mi. from there with the lake just up the hill a short distance away. My friend was amazed at how far 3 mi. looked when hiking thru the hills. The little bump in the flat spot is the top of Mt. Adams, another volcanic mountain in the Cascade Range of Washington. There are 4 of them, Mt. Adams, Mt. Baker, Mt. St. Helens (active since 1980), and of course, Mt. Rainier, the tallest of them all at 14,410 ft.
