Survivors - An explosion of cherry blossom

I wasn't able to talk to these two old ladies at a park near the Atomic Bomb Museum in Nagasaki City, Kyushu, Japan. I don't know if they were anywhere near Nagasaki at the time of the atomic bomb - or if they are even Japanese... Anyhow, they look old enough to have been around for the last 60-odd years and they certainly looked and acted like Japanese. Whatever... I find this image with the cherry tree in full bloom - seemingly errupting from beneath the ground - an extremely powerful image...

Great photo!

Artist Reply: If you ever get the chance, try to visit the Atomic Bomb Museum in Nagasaki. If you can do it at cherry blossom time, you'll still cry. But at least, the beauty of all the cherry trees (sakura) in full bloom will help to remind you that there is hope yet for life on this planet of ours...
